Chelsea Agrees to Sell Enzo Fernández to Manchester City
Manchester City has struck a deal with Chelsea to sign midfielder Enzo Fernández, The Athletic reported on Tuesday. The 25-year-old has been cleared by Chelsea to undergo a medical, according to the report, clearing the way for a switch across the Premier League.
The reported transfer fee stands at €125 million ($169 million), which would match the Premier League's transfer record, a mark set earlier this year when Alexander Isak moved from Newcastle United to Liverpool. Fernández first arrived in England in January 2023, when Chelsea paid Benfica €106.8 million ($125 million) for him - a fee that was itself a British transfer record at the time. bkfc bets
Fernández had just begun his fifth season at Stamford Bridge. In 2025-26, he posted career-best numbers for the club with 10 goals and four assists. Before Chelsea, he spent one season with Benfica in Portugal's Primeira Liga (2022-23) after coming through River Plate in Argentina's top flight across the 2018-19, 2021 and 2022 campaigns. He has also just returned from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he scored twice in seven appearances for Argentina - a tournament that also saw Lionel Messi announce his retirement from the national team. Both clubs have opened the 2026-27 Premier League season with two wins from two matches. Should the transfer go through, Fernández would face his former club twice this season, with City hosting Chelsea on Dec. 12 and the return fixture at Stamford Bridge scheduled for April 24.
