Casey Mears: Kyle Busch left unmatched mark on NASCAR

NASCAR driver Casey Mears said on Friday that Kyle Busch’s impact on professional racing was immeasurable. Busch, 41, died hours after NASCAR announced he would miss the weekend races at Charlotte Motor Speedway because of a severe illness that required hospitalization. NASCAR, the Busch family and Richard Childress Racing confirmed the death in a joint statement Thursday evening.

Mears spoke during an appearance on Fox News Channel’s Fox & Friends First. He described Busch as a driver who won so many races that the absence of a victory in any of the three national series on a given weekend stood out as unusual. Mears also noted Busch’s record as a competitor who gave full effort in every race and who had become a devoted father and husband.

Busch won NASCAR Cup Series championships in 2015 and 2019. He recorded 63 Cup victories in 762 starts and holds the all-time records for wins in the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. His most recent victory occurred the previous weekend in a Truck Series event at Dover.

The joint statement from NASCAR, the Busch family and Richard Childress Racing asked the public to respect the family’s privacy during this period and said further updates would be provided as appropriate.
