Madison Square Garden Launches 'Thank You, NYPD' Campaign with Private Concert for Police

Madison Square Garden Entertainment announced the "Thank You, NYPD" campaign on March 20, 2024, to express appreciation for New York City Police Department officers.[1]

The campaign encourages New Yorkers to upload videos thanking NYPD personnel for their service.[1]

St. John's University men's basketball head coach Rick Pitino participated with a video posted to Madison Square Garden's Instagram account on March 22, 2024.[2]

"I want to give a sincere thanks to the NYPD officers who do such an incredible job to keep our city safe," Pitino said. "Thank you so much."[2]

Pitino's team, the St. John's Red Storm, plays most home games at Madison Square Garden.[3] The Red Storm finished the 2023-24 season 20-13 overall and 12-8 in Big East Conference play.[3] They lost 91-83 to UConn in the Big East semifinals on March 14 before defeating UNC Asheville 80-64 in the NIT first round on March 20.[4][5][6]

The campaign includes a private concert on March 28, 2024, at The Theater at Madison Square Garden for uniformed officers, civilian staff and their families.[1]

Performers include Cyndi Lauper, John Fogerty, rapper Fat Joe, and comedians Chris Distefano and Sam Morril.[1]

MSG Entertainment will donate the venue and cover all costs. MSG Sports CEO and Executive Chairman Jim Dolan said the event is a sincere show of gratitude.[1]

"There are times in our culture today when the dissenter’s voice is louder than that of the majority. Such is the case with law enforcement, and, in particular, the NYPD," Dolan said. "Cries of ‘defund the police’ and other negative statements do not reflect the true feelings of New Yorkers."[1]
